The new podcast is a follow up to the ‘Free your mind : and ideas will follow’ podcast and a question that was subsequently asked by guest and friend of the podcast, Hal Weaver. The question in response to the ideas I discussed in the podcast, Hal’s question was ‘why bother?’.
I was fortunate to be asked to do a field recording project with the Wordsworth Museum in Grasmere and their local Women Institute based on the works and walks of Dorothy Wordsworth, William’ s sister. It was a fantastic project to work on and comprised of recording local women reading extracts from Dorothy’s poems, which were to be placed on an AR walking map of the area, as well as making underlying field recordings for around Grasmere.
Soundsitting as an alternative to soundwalking offers a number of additional benefits to the traditional soundwalk, including inclusivity for visually impaired and those unable to walk. Soundsitting is a way of obtaining deep immersive listening in a single soundscape context, rather than transitioning through differing contexts on a walk. Both methods are complimentary.
