A creative 2023

Happy New Year and best wishes to you for 2023.

I have not set resolutions or goals for many years now, instead choosing creative challenges and completion of defined projects. Previously these have included the Piece a day challenge where I composed a piece of music everyday for a year and a half, and more recently 52 Fridays, where I wrote a piece of music and produced an accompanying video every Friday for a year.

So what I am going to do this year?
This year I am going to set a mix of personal challenges and creative challenges, and I am typing them here as a way to feel accountable to readers of my blog.

My personal challenges are to :

  • To watch 1 film a month. I have fallen well behind on my film viewing, both for pleasure and research, so it is time to put that right. I will be doing a mini ‘my thoughts’ for each film.

  • To read 8 books in the year, once again I have fallen behind with reading and need to prioritise book reading over ‘social media’.

  • Record a ‘sound a day’ and post a montage at the end of each month of the collected sounds and soundscapes.

  • fifty two - yes I am going to do another 52 project - this time with a few differences. 52 music/sound pieces based on existing ideas from my ideas folders, as a way to get them finished. Each track will be a minimum of 1m-30s long and will have an accompanying film. These will be published each week to my YouTube channel.

It feels good to set these challenges as each is also perfectly doable.

Watch this space for updates on how it is all going.

Here is to a creative 2023 for everyone.

Peace
